Institutional Distinctiveness

Since its inception in the early 90s, the institute has made notable contributions to Assamese language and culture, despite being located in a rural and economically underdeveloped area. The college focuses on enriching local language and culture, particularly through its Assamese and Folklore departments. The Assamese Department, in particular, is a point of pride, attracting students from rural backgrounds who wish to study Assamese literature. The department has consistently maintained strong academic standards, providing students with a supportive learning environment. This aligns with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, which promotes vernacular languages and challenges the dominance of English. Students are also encouraged to participate in cultural programmes at the district and state levels, such as those organized by Darrang Zilla Sahittya Sabha. Several faculty members have contributed significantly to Assamese literature, including Pallab Baruah, Moon Mani Devi, and Mrs. Hiranmoyee Medhi. In response to increasing demand, the college plans to introduce a postgraduate course in Assamese. The college also publishes Kabikantha, an annual magazine that provides a platform for young poets. Additionally, the Folklore Department has played a key role in preserving and promoting indigenous local culture.
